A moment in time

Suroor Alikhan, 22 August 2023

Here are some of my attempts at haiku. I love the way haikus capture a moment in time, like a snapshot. I wrote the first one because I didn't have my camera with me and wanted to remember the moment.

My husband and I were driving back from St. Cergue on spring evening when we saw the almond tree and the moon. We pulled over and sat there, enjoying the view. It was many years ago, but it's something I've never forgotten.

A moment in time captured

Almond tree filled with

White blossoms; an orange moon

Hangs huge in the sky.

A deep green forest.

Suddenly, in the stillness

A nightingale calls.

A still sentinel,

A wooden dog, ears alert,

Looks after the woods.
