Walking in Gorse

It was the beginning of the pandemic lockdown in 2020 and I was lucky enough to be living close to the beach. That spring was especially beautiful in Scotland, nature was feeling free.

Walking in Gorse

Immersed in a yellow sea of coconut,

dunes taking on a tropical aroma

foreign to this northern shore.

The prickly plant defends its territory

roots grasp the sandy pray

copious thorns, it’s protective armour.

April has brought the flowers to speed

contrasting with the bluest of skies

a gift to sight and smell.

Walking to the sea is a treat of freedom

a blessed invitation from nature’s realm

reminder of our deep connection.

I soak in the perfume,

the immensity above me

and blend into the Mother around me.
